Hank Mobley - Dippin' (Tone Poet Vinyl Series)

Artist:
HANK MOBLEY
$39.98

A benchmark album in Hank Mobley’s superb mid-1960s output, Dippin’ was recorded in 1965 amid an inspired run of sessions that included The Turnaround and A Caddy For Daddy. Dippin’ featured the great tenor saxophonist in a quintet with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Harold Mabern Jr. on piano, Larry Ridley on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums for an engaging 6-song set spanning boogaloo, bossa nova, ballads, and bop. Highlights include Mobley’s funky opener “The Dip” and hard-swinging modal minor-key number “The Vamp” as well as the Brazilian piece “Recado Bossa Nova” and the gorgeous ballad “I See Your Face Before Me.”
